Shared Care Policy

Burford Surgery considers shared care arrangements on a case-by-case basis. When making a decision a number of factors are taken into account, including:

  • What the shared care is for.
  • Whether the diagnosis and treatment were initiated by an NHS department, or by a private provider.
  • Whether a private provider is approved by BOB ICB.
  • Whether our GPs have the appropriate skills and experience to safely manage the specific diagnosis and ongoing treatment. For some conditions, ongoing management remains the responsibility of the specialist.

For these reasons, we are not able to automatically accept shared care plans that are already in place, and each request would need to be reviewed in line with current NHS and local guidance.
