EPS

Burford Surgery uses EPS (Electronic Prescription Service).

EPS prescriptions are digital NHS prescriptions which can be sent electronically to a patient’s chosen pharmacy. This removes the need to use paper forms and enables prescriptions to be sent quickly and efficiently, without the patient having to collect paperwork and take it to a pharmacy themselves.

How it Works:

  1. Choose a pharmacy: This is called a ‘nomination’. You can look up your local pharmacies here. Inform the practice of your preference. Pharmacies themselves can also do this for you. You can choose an online pharmacy if you prefer.
  2. Request your medication: When you need medication place a request through your usual platform. We recommend using the NHS App or Patient Access.
  3. GP sends electronically: The prescription is signed electronically and sent directly to your pharmacy.
  4. Pharmacy receives request: Pharmacy download the prescription and can then fulfil it so it is ready for you to collect when you next visit.
  5. Collect your prescription: As long as you have allowed enough time between ordering and collecting your prescription will be ready waiting for you. Urgent (acute) prescriptions (such as antibiotics) that have been prescribed the same day may need to be downloaded and completed while you wait, but can still be sent via EPS.

NB: If you do not have a chosen pharmacy, or regularly need to collect prescriptions from different pharmacies, you can still have your prescription sent via EPS. Prescriptions for patients without a chosen pharmacy will sit on the ‘spine’ online system until a pharmacy downloads them. Just visit a pharmacy, give them your NHS number, and they will be able to trace your prescription. Alternatively, you can call Reception and ask them to text you an EPS ‘token’ code for the prescription you need.

Key Benefits:

  • Convenience: No need to collect paper prescriptions from the surgery.
  • Efficiency: Faster process.
  • Choice: You can nominate any pharmacy, selecting one that is most convenient for you.
  • Security: Reduced risk of misplacing paper prescriptions.
